AWARD WINNING!


The Gallery 37/Chicago Public Schools Advance Arts Education Program (AAEP) produces results worthy of recognition! The contents within this information packet will provide insight on the excellence in teaching and learning that is the standard of this outstanding program that provides training in the arts and preparation for careers in the arts and arts related fields.

Our students have earned highest honors in recognition of their commitment to meeting the challenge of intense and concentrated study in the arts that has earned them scholarships and admittance to the most prestigious colleges and universities in the country renown for their curriculums in the visual, culinary and performing arts.

We have included for your information a description of the Advanced Arts Education Program, and the thematic framework “Chicago Our Community: Identity, Existence, Change” that serves as the focus that threads throughout our eleven course curricula. Distinguished arts teaching organizations provide practicing artists to work in collaboration with Chicago Public Schools arts teachers recognized for excellence throughout the Chicago arts community. We have also included recognition of the accomplishments of our students and a listing of high schools our students attend for their academic studies, a copy of our Winter, 2000 newsletter, Inside the Gallery, and a Course Description Catalog.

Additionally, we provide OUTREACH opportunities in the visual, performing, and culinary arts for special education high school students, and students attending the Fine Arts cluster elementary schools and middle school students enrolled in the Pre-Baccalaureate programs in the elementary schools.










STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
CLASS OF 2000-2001


James Earl Johnson, King High School: Graphic Design student created the award winning Logo and Poster for the 2000 Chicago Public Schools High School Fair; awarded annually renewable $22,000 financial aid package to attend Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois.

Brett Witt, Whitney Young High School: 3D Computer Modeling student awarded Outstanding Leadership Award for creating web site published and linked to Gallery 37 site: http://www.evl.uic/natt/G37/g37intro.html. Brett now attends the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, College of Engineering.

Amber Mohammad, Mather High School: Video Production student was awarded scholarship from 37 Friends and video production internship at Gallery 37 while studying at Columbia College.

Theodore Rainey, Whitney Young High School: Culinary Arts student completed internship at Charlie Trotter’s Restaurant and awarded $40,000 scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America, New York
