BUNRAKU OUTREACH WORKSHOP

Middle Years International Baccalaureate (IB) students from Washington High School traveled to Gallery 37 on January 29th to learn about Japanese Bunraku Puppetry. Each student created his or her version of a bunraku puppet. Buraku puppets are traditionally operated by three individuals who manipulate rods attached to the puppets. The puppets are used to enact Japanese tales and the performances include shamisen music and narration. Using found objects, paper mache and fabric, the students produced an amazing cast of characters that would make any stage production incorporating their puppets a captivating experience.

VISUAL & CULINARY ARTS GET RAVE REVIEWS

The opening reception for the AAEP Visual Arts Exhibition and Culinary Showcase on January 11, 2008 was without a doubt one of the best opportunities in Chicago to view beautiful, though-provoking art while being treated to scrumptious appetizers and pastries. On hand for an evening that included music by the AAEP Jazz Band, were the student artists and chefs, available to answer questions and to reflect on their art-making and culinary experiences at Gallery 37. VIPs (Very Important Parents) applauded the wonderful showcase.

STUNNING PERFORMANCES LIGHT UP THE HOLIDAY SEASON

The Gallery 37 AAEP Winter Performance Arts Showcase was a smashing success. Filled with sounds, images and gestures that not only brought holiday cheer to the standing room only audiences, the jam-packed program also touched the hearts of Gallery 37 theatergoers as the actors, dancers, vocalists and musicians poignantly portrayed the spirit of the season. Kudos to students and the teachers of Vocal Arts, Dance Evolution, Theater, and to the Jazz Band!
