BUNRAKU OUTREACH WORKSHOP

Middle Years International Baccalaureate (IB) students from Washington High School traveled to Gallery 37 on January 29th to learn about Japanese Bunraku Puppetry. Each student created his or her version of a bunraku puppet. Buraku puppets are traditionally operated by three individuals who manipulate rods attached to the puppets. The puppets are used to enact Japanese tales and the performances include shamisen music and narration. Using found objects, paper mache and fabric, the students produced an amazing cast of characters that would make any stage production incorporating their puppets a captivating experience.
